About Us

Our Mission

At the Reddy Lab, our mission is to advance scientific understanding and innovation in the fields of Healthy Aging, Dementia, and other neurodegenerative diseases, including Huntington's disease, Parkinson's disease, and Multiple Sclerosis. Our research interests focus on the early detection of dementia, effective management and treatment strategies, and, above all, the prevention of dementia.

We are committed to conducting cutting-edge research that explores the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying these conditions while investigating dementia comorbidities that contribute to cognitive decline. In addition to our research initiatives, we strive to raise awareness about neurodegenerative diseases and the significant challenges faced by patients and their caregivers. We provide support and resources to caregivers, addressing their unique struggles, and fostering community engagement.

Our lab serves as a collaborative environment for aspiring scientists, including postdoctoral researchers, faculty members, and dedicated students, who contribute to research excellence and scientific writing. Together, we aim to create impactful solutions that not only advance scientific knowledge but also improve the quality of life for individuals affected by these diseases and their families. Through our efforts, we aspire to lead the way in developing diagnostic and therapeutic strategies and enhancing public understanding of the complexities associated with aging and neurodegeneration.

ABOUT US

The Story of Reddy Lab

Dr. P. Hemachandra Reddy, Ph.D., joined the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) in October 2014 and has since established several pivotal research units within his laboratory. These include Drug Discovery, Biomarker Development, Molecular Basis Studies, and Human Population Studies. Over the past two decades, Dr. Reddy's lab has focused on advancing knowledge in Healthy Aging, Dementia, and various neurodegenerative diseases such as Huntington's disease, Parkinson's disease, and Multiple Sclerosis.

In addition to contributing to scientific research, the Reddy lab is committed to raising awareness of neurodegenerative diseases and understanding the profound impact these conditions have on patients and caregivers. Recognizing the emotional and physical strain faced by caregivers, the team actively seeks to address their challenges and provide support through outreach and education initiatives.

Currently, the Reddy lab is a hub of scientific inquiry, housing 5 postdoctoral researchers, 3 research faculty members, and a diverse group of undergraduate, graduate, and medical students who volunteer their time and efforts. These students are not only engaged in groundbreaking research but are also actively involved in scientific writing and dissemination of knowledge. Through this collaborative environment, the Reddy lab fosters the next generation of researchers while addressing the pressing issues related to dementia and its comorbidities. By combining research innovation with community outreach, Dr. Reddy and his team aim to make a significant impact on both the scientific community and the broader public affected by these complex diseases.

About Dr. Reddy

Dr. Reddy is a Tenured Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, with over 25 years of research experience in aging and neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s, and Parkinson’s diseases. He holds a B.Sc. in Biology, an M.Sc. in Human Biology, an M. Phil in Human Cytogenetics, and a Ph.D. in Human Genetics from prestigious institutions. His postdoctoral training includes esteemed fellowships at the National Human Genome Research Institute and University College, London.

Renowned for his research on mitochondrial dysfunction in Alzheimer's, Dr. Reddy has published significant findings in top journals and developed transgenic animal models to study neurodegeneration. He co-founded SynapTEX, LLC, a biomedical R&D company, and MiRAHD, LLC, focusing on early biomarkers for Alzheimer’s, securing multiple grants for innovative therapies.

His contributions have earned him notable accolades, including Fellow status with the American Neurological Association and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. With over 300 peer-reviewed publications and 4 patents, Dr. Reddy continues to advance our understanding of cognitive health and neurodegeneration, aiming to develop new prevention and treatment strategies for Alzheimer’s disease.
